Some guitarists play in the shadow of Jimi Hendrix. Greg Sover was given the rare opportunity to help finish a piece of his legacy. The Brooklyn-born, Philadelphia-raised guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter has released four recordings and performed alongside artists including Walter Trout, Sonny Landreth, Popa Chubby, Marcus King Band, Jimmy Vivino, Jeffrey Gaines, Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers, and the Yardbirds. His latest album, HIS-STORY, features legendary Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox, including a rare recording of the Hendrix composition “Remember”—further cementing Sover’s place in the continuing story of one of rock’s greatest guitar legends.
Now, Sover is entering his next chapter. He is currently recording his fifth album, which will launch with the powerhouse single “Money,” as well as a series of cinematic music videos to provide fans with a full immersive experience. The guitar. The music. The story. Few moments define a guitarist’s career like being chosen to carry forward an unfinished piece of Jimi Hendrix history. But for Greg Sover, it became a defining chapter in a story he was already writing for himself. The Brooklyn-born, Philadelphia-raised guitarist, singer/songwriter, and frontman has built a reputation as a powerful live performer and genre-defying musician, blending rock, blues, soul, country, R&B, hip-hop, and reggae with guitar-driven intensity. Sover has released four recordings—Songs of a Renegade, Jubilee, Parade, and HIS-STORY—through his independent Grounded Soul Records label. His most recent album, HIS-STORY, featured legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox on two tracks, including interpretations of Hendrix’s “Remember” and “Manic Depression.” The collaboration was more than a recording opportunity—it was a piece of unfinished music history. Cox and Hendrix had planned to re-record “Remember,” but the session never happened before Hendrix’s death. Decades later, Cox was still waiting for the right guitarist to bring the song to life. After hearing Sover play, he knew he had found him.

That endorsement is one of the defining moments of a career built on musicianship, authenticity, and the ability to command a stage. Sover has shared the stage with Walter Trout, Sonny Landreth, Popa Chubby, Marcus King, the Yardbirds, Jimmy Vivino, Jeffrey Gaines, Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers, and David Uosikkinen’s In the Pocket. He is also a two-time International Blues Challenge semifinalist and won Philadelphia’s Hard Rock Rising competition in 2015. Now, Sover is entering his next chapter.
He is currently recording his fifth album, working with a creative team that includes Trevor Rogers on drums, Dustin Napoli on guitar and keyboards, Dave Palan on bass, Ed Abrams as co-producer, and Joe Venango of Everloft Studios as engineer. The forthcoming release will launch with “Money,” accompanied by a high-end music video directed by Mark Melchiorre of Sleepy Oak Productions, followed by two additional full-band videos supporting the new music campaign. But the story behind the music goes back much further.
Sover’s connection to the guitar began at age five, when his father—a guitarist himself—gave him his first instrument. Growing up in a Haitian household, he was surrounded by the rhythms of Kompa, while Bob Marley became one of his earliest major influences. After moving to Philadelphia, his musical world expanded to include Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jay-Z, and Dwight Yoakam, as well as the rock, blues, country, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and reggae that continue to shape his sound. His musical foundation was built in the church, where he began playing bass while developing his skills as a guitarist. Philadelphia became his proving ground. He took his guitar into local bars and open mics, where early performances quickly led to gigs—and ultimately to a career as a sought-after live performer. That willingness to follow the music wherever it led became central to Sover’s identity as an artist. He doesn't fit neatly into one genre, and he isn't trying to.
At the center of it all is the guitar—used not simply as an instrument, but as a voice. Guitar-driven music. Soul, grit, and a story all his own. From a five-year-old kid captivated by his father’s guitar to an accomplished recording artist, songwriter, and frontman now preparing his fifth album, Greg Sover has spent his life turning influences into identity and experience into music.
